cirque du soleil

Inspired by the whimsical, playful and delight of imagination, the circus transports us to places of what-ifs and wonder.

The performers of the circus cease to be human as they adopt shapes that defy logic. When you witness the Cirque performance, the performer’s attention is with-in rather than with-out. They’re in deep meditation; steeped in moment, body, breath, as if there is no audience. If the artist becomes distracted by audience, the act may fail.

Life is a balance of performer and performance.

The body only lets go when breath is permitted to flow. If we become concerned with performance, our body restricts breath and unravelling. If we perform to the audience’s expectations, we lose sense of self.

Authenticity is a delicate thread; lose it and the search to rekindle it can seem impossible. Life becomes performative.

Transformative practices are inside-out rather than outside-based.

The gifts lie in a body-led, heart-felt practice, rather than one that is over structured, intellectual, planned, or audience-led.

It’s never about appearance, or how the performance is received. It’s about what’s possible, what’s nourishing, what allows us to stretch and grow, beyond imagination.

Our unbecoming leads to our becoming.

Cirque du Soleil is a huge production. Yet the observer is drawn to the single performer/s centre-stage. Like The Monkey Business Illusion, our attention selectively focuses on the performer. When we intensely focus on any one thing, we miss the wider picture. A reminder to not be so consumed by the performance - to live life from a grounded, centered place.

Watching the Cirque feels meditative and inspires wonder.

We can be so much more than we believe. If only we dare dream it - and seem it.
